See the other face of advanced life science technology. The MIT Enterprise Forum of DC is pleased to be presenting a Startup Lab featuring 3 Biotechnology companies with unique business visions on how to develop and commercialize new products that advance health and well-being :


  • Kinetic Revolutions, LLC was founded in January 2010; it leverages emerging research and technology in the Orthotics & Prosthetics field. Its activities include consulting and contract support and in-house engineering and development.
  • CaerVision is the fastest growing in-office patient education and digital media network for physicians nationwide. The company currently services five medical specialties with advanced multi-media systems that are deployed in the waiting rooms and treatment rooms.
  • NanoRods, LLC is a nanotechnology company that has developed technologies for mass production and utilization of gold nanorods in biotechnological applications, trace detection of biomolecules and nanoengineered sensors.

Panelists will include:


  • Peter Gabrielle is the Technical Director of ARmark Authentication Technologies, LLC in York Pennsylvania. ARmark uses micro-nanotechnology tags to authenticate pharmaceuticals and to eliminate counterfeit drugs from the supply chain. He has master's degrees from Wharton and the Biotechnology program at Johns Hopkins.
  •  Konstantina Katcheves is a patent and life science business attorney with Saul Ewing. In addition to being admitted to practice law, she holds a degree from the Biotechnology masters program at Johns Hopkins.
  • Carol C. Lavrich has over twenty years licensing negotiations and intellectual property experience in the biotechnology industry with broad experience in business and market development, and strategic planning.  Her professional experience includes positions as Director, Joint Office of Technology Transfer at the Henry M. Jackson Foundation, and Director, Licensing and Patents at the American Red Cross.

 Presenter bios:


  • Dr. Babak Nikoobakht is Founder and President of NanoRods, LLC. He is known for his work on gold nanorods and development of several key techniques for nanorod production, assembly and nanodevice fabrication. 
  • Jack Zhang is CEO of CaerVision Corporation.  He has over 15 years of experience in media technology and healthcare product marketing.
  • Mac Heebner, CEO, and Jeffrey M. Brandt, President, co-founded Kinetic Revolutions, LLC (KR) in January 2010 with the goal of creating an outlet to develop technical solutions for patient care 'problems' they've seen over the course of his 16 years in the Orthotics & Prosthetics industry.  Mac is responsible for daily operations and contract management, while Jeffrey is in charge of feeding the product development pipeline by gathering and qualifying new product ideas.
